Made Up Mind- Declaration of Independence l

The second in a series of travel writings.

Once again. On my daughter’s 8th grade trip. The 2nd day. The 2nd word. Declaration. When I taught first grade, we studied American Symbols and Monuments. To visit the Liberty Bell. To walk through Independence Hall. Where our Founding Fathers stood. Where they not just literally stood. But symbolically. Stood for independence. Declaring independence. Committing what was treason. Yet. Was truly. Freedom.

When the Founding Fathers decided to revolt, they had made up their minds to stand for what they believed in.

This steadfastness of mind. Willingness to give up everything. That is what happens in the furnace. When the flames are all around. When you learn who you really are and who you truly align yourself with.

It is that reliance on God. Surrendered obedience to Him. That is what gives the steadfastness. So in the fire. In the smoke. In the flames and heat. You can pledge. And declare. And ultimately lean on Him. And walk out unscathed. Unbroken. Scar free.

Because your Declaration of Independence is the dependence on the one who makes you fireproof.
